While there are many options for debt consolidation and getting oneself out of debt, the best way to stay out of debt is to never get into it. By following a few tips, staying out of debt can be much easier than it sounds.

One sure way to avoid debt is to always pay the balance of credit cards in full. Although minuscule monthly minimum payments often entice cardholders to keep their money in their bank accounts, it is incredibly damaging in the long run. With compounding interest accrued on a monthly basis, cardholders are far better off emptying their bank accounts in order to not carry a balance. By doing this, they’ll ensure that they never spend more than they can afford.

Another easy way to minimize debt is by only using a single credit card. Many people are drawn to store-specific credit cards or cards that offer introductory rewards. However by having several accounts open, cardholders are more likely to spend beyond their means. Those who hope to reduce their amount of cards should stop using them, but beware; closing an account can actually hurt credit scores. Cardholders are better off just cutting the cards and letting the account lie dormant than closing the account.

One final way to prevent debt is by establishing a solid savings plan. Those who have an emergency reserve of cash are far better equipped to handle unexpected expenses that may come up in the course of a lifetime. By planning for the unplanned, people with a sizable savings accounts can ensure that they do not need to go into debt in order to take care of life’s little surprises. By following just a few simple guidelines, individuals who wish to stay out of debt will have all the tools required to do so.

When you’re in the market for auto insurance, it’s easy to be overwhelmed by the amount of money you’ll be spending. However, in this economy, it’s important to make budget cuts wherever possible. Luckily, there are ways to purchase affordable auto insurance, even in a tight economy. Many auto insurance companies offer a wide variety of discounts, and it’s quite easy to determine which discounts you qualify for.

Age Discounts

Some auto insurance companies offer a discount to drivers after they reach the age of 25. Others offer a senior citizen discount for customers over the age of 65. If you meet either of these qualifications, be sure to call your insurance agent and ask if you qualify for a discount.

Safe Driver Discounts

Most auto insurance companies offer a discount to their customers who go for six months or more without an accident or a ticket. This discount may be in the form of a premium reduction or a refund check, depending on the insurance company. If it’s been quite some time since your last speeding ticket or moving violation, contact your insurance company to determine if you qualify for this discount.

Multi-Vehicle or Multi-Policy Discount

If you’ll be insuring more than one vehicle, or you want to purchase both a home and a car insurance policy, you may be entitled to a discount. Many insurance companies offer either multi-vehicle or multi-policy discounts, and some companies offer both. This is an easy way to save quite a bit of money on your car insurance premiums, so be sure to find out if your insurance company offers this type of discount.

Before you stress about the high cost of insurance premiums, be sure you’ve taken every possible step to reduce the amount of money you’re spending on car insurance. Using these easy tips, you can likely shave some money off of your insurance bill.

You want to have the convenience and security of a credit card, but credit card companies pass on your application. You can’t see many options and have considered a Prepaid Credit Card. Smart move, but what can you expect from a card that you load up with your own money? Good question and the answer may surprise you. A prepaid credit card can give you benefits like avoiding the 20% fee of a standard credit card and still get the ease of use when a credit card is necessary to rent a car or get a room at a hotel.

You’ll find signing up simple and straightforward; just load your new card by direct deposit every payday. With your earnings within easy reach, you’ll appreciate the ability to pay bills, or eat at fancy restaurants and leave your card to pay the check. You can spend your money as you see fit, but not more money than you have on the card. You’ll keep more cash in your wallet, rather than paying out pricey late fees or usage charges.

Other options exist for those who don’t wish to load their entire paycheck onto a credit card. You may have other places to put your money, such as a retirement fund, or just want cash on hand for small purchases. In this case, you can get a prepaid credit card for a reasonably small fee, allowing you to load whatever money you want, you’re in control. You can load a card from thousands of locations across the country, there is a convenient location close at hand.

If you want to change your credit around and start building good credit, consider the advantages of a prepaid credit card. With its direct deposit availability, low fee structure and easy acceptance by everyone, you’ve found the right solution.

According to New York Times, BP said Wednesday that “static kill” appeared to be effective. The company started pumping mud into its ruptured well in the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday. The procedure is said to be working and has stabilized the pressure in the oil well.
Static kill is one of the company’s efforts to seal the well once and for all. However, British energy giant has been harshly criticized for its delayed and inappropriate handling of the matter, as they come up with this solution after more than 100 days have been passed since the the Macondo oil well blew out, killing 11 people and sinking the whole Deepwater Horizonrig on April 20. Scientists revealed that around 5 million barrels of oil seeped into the Gulf of Mexico since then.
All previous efforts to cap the well or hold back the crude have been unsuccessful until three weeks ago.
However, BP is now confident of the proceedings, and hope to seal the well permanently in August. Engineers pumped 13.2 pounds mud per gallon back into the leaking well. Cement will be applied in a few day, but it entirely depends on the success of mud pumping operation.
The company said in a statement on Wednesday, “The well pressure is now being controlled by the hydrostatic pressure of the drilling mud, which is the desired outcome of the static kill procedure carried out yesterday. The well is now being monitored, per the agreed procedure, to ensure it remains static. Further pumping of mud may or may not be required depending on results observed during monitoring.”

After the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico BP intends to sell its property in Pakistan in Vietnam to cover the damage. The assets include gas fields and pipelines in Vietnam and other assets and costly exploration licenses in Pakistan except the lubricant business. According to Wall Street Journal, none of these areas is the major business point for BP, and it added only 2 percent to the total natural gas output of BP in year 2009. According to an estimate by Jason Kennedy the company can get around $1.7 million for selling its assets in both countries. Kennedy says that they have got a lot of business that is of less importance to them but can be useful for a lot of other companies.
BP plans to sell its assets in Pakistan by the end of 2010 but the timetable for the selling of Vietnam business is not mentioned yet. The company needs to discuss the affairs with the local government first because the gas supply from BP runs a major power station in Pakistan. According to a BP spokesman the total estimated cost for the oil spill was below $4 million. BP plans to sell business worth of $10 million in different countries over the next year to neutralize the damage caused by gulf spills on its charts.

The U.S. Postal Service on July 6, 2010 proposed an increase of 2-cent in the price of a 1st-class stamp, making it 46 cents. The price-increase proposal is subjected to the approval of The Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC). If the new price-hike proposal is approved; the new prices will be effective from January 2011.
This is one of the Postal Service’s desperate efforts to get out of a deep financial crisis. According to the next year’s projection, the agency’s budget deficit exceeds $7 billion. Revenue has not been up to the mark and the revenue from mail sent declined 12.7 percent during 2009. During economic recession, most of the businesses cut back on mailings expenses by turning to the web to deliver their messages.
Earlier this year, the U.S. Postal Service declared its downsizing policy and announced that the agency would reduce its workforce by eliminating 50,000 positions. The company also intended to slash overtime. However, it seems that the “trim down” policy saved billions of dollars for the agency but it still was not sufficient to bridge the massive budget gap.
Now the Postal Service is going to increase prices as a last resort. The proposal plan also includes the proposed increase in the rates on “packages, periodicals and special services,” CNN reports. The price hike is likely to earn around $3 billion in the fiscal year 2011, which is not enough to close even half of the budget gap.
The PRC’s members have been appointed the president and they can rule the proposal within 90 days. Postmaster General John E. Potter explained the whole situation by saying that, “There is no one single solution to the dire financial situation that the Postal Service faces. These proposed rate adjustments are moderate and part of a fair and balanced approach to insuring mail service for all Americans well into the future.”
This would be the sixth price hike in the price of first-class stamps since 2001, when they used to cost 34 cents.

Google announced that it would acquire ITA Software, a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based maker of “air-travel flight-information” software. Big airlines and travel agencies constitute the ITA’s customer base including American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Kayak, Orbitz, Southwest Airlines, TripAdvisor, United Airlines, US Airways, Virgin Atlantic Airways and Microsoft’s Bing. The company developed QPX technology to organize flight-related data such as flight times, flight availability and ticket prices.
Google will pay $700 million in cash to buy the software vendor. More than 500 employees work at ITA. The company has been a success in the online travel-information business and now it wants to improve by collaborating with Google. Google’s quality resources will help the company to further develop and enhance the quality of its “air-travel flight-information software”.
Google wants to buy the company because it wants to use its flight information software to make search easy for the Google users. It is a very crucial step as flight-information seeking users make a big portion of total Google searches. Similarly, on the airlines front, more than 50% of airlines sell their tickets online. However consumers are usually dissatisfied with the way they are referred from one site to another. So now Google intends to provide them information about the best available deals without their wasting time. Google’s VP of “Search Products & User Experience” explained Google’s new investment in a very nice way by saying, “Travel is one of the hardest search problems around, both in terms of how users like to express their queries and in terms of the data and accuracy and speed needed to get people the types of results they’re looking for.”

Toyota Motor Corp. is yet again facing recall issue. The Japanese giant automaker announced today that the company could recall 270,000 vehicles including various models of Toyota Lexus and Toyota Crown with engine issues. The recall announcement weighed on Toyota’s share price in the Tokyo Stock Exchange, forcing it to close lower.
The recall decision is yet to be finalized by regulators, Toyota said. The company has received around 200 complaints about the engine issue. However, no serious or minor accident been reported so far. The problem with the engine can suddenly halt the car. Toyota is going to recall the vehicle to “minimize inconvenience for the customers.”
The company does not expect the new problem with its vehicles to affect future earnings. However, the analyst believe that this new controversy can prove to be a big blow to the company’s already tarnishing reputation as the most reliable automaker in the world. There is a huge probability that many customers get tired of repeated problems with the company’s vehicles and begin to avoid the Japanese brand altogether. Toyota has recalled more than 10 million vehicles since last year including 6.5 million in the United States alone. The company also paid heavy fines to US regulators and its credit rating dropped to the lowest level in many years.

Google’s smartphone operating system Android is gaining grounds against major competitors such as Apple and Research in Motion. Android is already highly praised by most of the application developers. A survey carried out by Appcelerator: a company that deals in mobile-software tools, revealed that more than 50% of application developers were of the view that Android has “the greatest long-term potential among operating systems”, as compared to 40% of the developers declaring Apple’s iOS the best in terms of long-term potential.
The survey supports the new buzz that Android is about to end Apple’s iOS reign by taking Apple’s position as “the second-most-popular mobile-operating system after Symbian OS” in the world. Android is winning over new customers and adding more than 100,000 users to its customer-base daily. Android runs on 60 devices and more than 60,000 Android-compatible applications are available out there. Researchers predict that Android will snatch iOS’s second position in the mobile operating system race by the end of 2012.
Android’s association with Google is one of the most important factors responsible for its success. People trust Google, therefore they trust Google’s Android too. Another major factor helping Android’s success is Android phones competitive pricing strategy. You can get HTC’s Droid Eris and a 2-year contract for as little as $50, whereas the cheapest iPhone costs u $99.

The People’s Bank of China has announced on June 19 that the bank will no longer peg it currency; the Chinese Yuan with other currencies. China’s government had been keeping its currency at artificially lower levels in order to provide support to Chinese exporters. The yuan was pegged to the US dollar during the economic downturn since 2008.
China’s decision to tolerate its currency flexibility will impact global investing and even the U.S. economy to a considerable extent. For example, strong Chinese currency can increase U.S. retail prices and U.S. exports, and send U.S. inflation to high levels. However, none of these economic consequences of the new flexible currency policy are expected to appear in near future.
The United States being one of China’s biggest trading partners, had been seeking this move since 2008. China had responded positively on the same issue back in 2005, and let its currency gain value against the USD till 2008. Yuan gained 21% against the USD over the period of 3 years. However, the global economic downturn left the exporting nation China no other choice but to peg its currency with the USD.
Now that China is again willing to appreciate its currency, we can expect investment from China flowing to the global markets. The stronger yuan means that the Chinese companies could buy more commodities and invest more in global markets, especially in the U.S. stock markets and real estate. Chinese demand can also boost exports of U.S. energy, tech and health-care sectors.
Retailers could be on losing side as they heavily depend upon inexpensive imported products from China. Higher value of yuan will drive the prices up and decrease their profit margins. On the other hand, the consumers could also pay the higher prices if the retailers like Wall-Mart increased the prices to retain their previous profit margins.
