After casting his vote in the Vice Presidential election on 9 September, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Gurdaspur and Shimla to take stock of the flood tragedy and natural calamity in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. Earlier, Mr. Modi conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas. Immediately after returning from his Japan-China visit, the Prime Minister spoke to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and sent financial assistance of Rs. 12,000 crore from the Centre.
