Elon Musk’s H-1B U-turn: Days After ‘Will Go To War’ Promise, Musk Says Visa System ‘Broken’

Elon Musk’s H-1B U-turn: Elon Musk, the billionaire and CEO of Tesla, declared that the H-1B visa system is “broken” and requires a “major reform” a few days after he vowed to “go to war” to defend it. According to Elon Musk, he has made it clear that the H-1B visa program is flawed and that it can be readily fixed by taking certain actions. In addition to raising the minimum wage, he proposed adding an annual fee to maintain the H1B. Musk claimed that it would increase the cost of hiring foreign workers, causing businesses to turn their attention to domestic labour. This could be easily resolved by raising the minimum wage considerably and adding an annual maintenance fee for the H1B, which would make hiring foreigners materially more expensive than hiring domestically.
