In this course, we trace The History of Shastriya Sangeet from its ancient Vedic roots to the present, focusing on pivotal movements and texts, including the Bhakti movement, Sangita Ratnakara, and Chaturdandi Prakasika. We discuss the impact of Persian and Islamic influences, and through listening and analysis, students gain insights into the cultural fusion that shaped both Karnatic and Hindustani music. This exploration offers a profound understanding of India’s music and its global resonance.
